Now it’s time for celebration of distinction

Toppers in Puducherry are an ecstatic lot as their hard work has paid off

Weak students given special attention: school principal

PUDUCHERRY: After months of hard work, it was celebration time for top rank holders in Puducherry.

While jubilation filled the air, and appreciation came in from all sides, the top rank holders were indeed a happy lot.

Emerging as the top rank holder for Puducherry and Karaikal regions, R. Shri Varthan. who secured 1,183 out of 1,200, was thrilled. . Aiming to become a doctor, this student of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School said: “My parents, teachers and friends encouraged me a lot. Even if I study only for four hours, I concentrate fully.”

His father, Radha Krishan, Head of the Mechanical department at Government Polytechnic College, is proud of his son’s achievement.

“It is purely due to his efforts and hard work,” he said.

Mr. Varthan secured centum in physics and 199 in Chemistry and maths.

Second rank holder A. Mohamed Ibrahime Asif (1,178 marks) of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School can’t stop smiling. “I feel very happy. Now, I want to study medicine at JIPMER or AIIMS,” he said.

“It was as if we were writing the exams,” said Mr. Asif’s father Mohammed Acharaff. “We woke up earlier than him. My daughter has also written the Standard X examination this year,” he said.

For S. Balaji (1,174 marks), one of the third rank holders of the same school, 90 per cent of the learning process was completed at the classroom itself. He scored centum in Maths and 198 in Physics. He wants to pursue B. Tech.

Sharing the third rank, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School student J. Jamal attributes his success to the special coaching and regular tests at school. He wants to take up computer science engineering.

S. Dhanalakshmi, a student of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School, has also come third. Her father, T. Selvaraj, a retired deputy transport commissioner, said he expected her to get a State rank. She aspires to study software engineering.

Principal of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School Fr. M. S. John Bosco said: “This year, 265 students appeared for the Plus Two examinations from our school and we have secured centum pass percentage. We have been conducting special coaching for students during the weekends and daily tests for students of Class X and XII.”

Students who had difficulty in coping with studies were given special attention, he said, adding, “Parents and teachers supported and motivated the students.”
