Pass percentage in Villupuram district 59.4

Kallakurichi school bags first three ranks

VILLUPURAM: Compared to last year, Villupuram district has improved its performance in the Plus Two examinations this year. It has attained a pass percentage of 59.4 as against the 57.05 last year.

Even the variation of 2.35 per cent in both the years’ performance means that 2,964 more candidates have passed.

However, the district still lags behind the State average of 84.4 per cent.

Chief Educational Officer P.A. Naresh said that of the total number of 27,714 candidates, including 14,658 boys and 13,056 girls who appeared for the examinations, 16,463 (8,539 boys – 58.25 per cent, and, 7,924 girls – 60.69 per cent) emerged successful.

As regards the district ranks, the first three places have gone to A.K.T. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kallakurichi. V. Harinivas has come first with 1,179 out of 1,200 and R. Premchandran with 1,178/1,200 has come second. The third place is shared by V. Bhuvaneswari (1,169/1,200) and G. Rajkumar (1,169/1,200).

The top-scorers in the government higher secondary schools are as follows: N. Malathi (1,139) of Mambalapattu GHSS, K. Thalavakulandai (1,129) of Tindivanam GHSS, and, S. Rubia Begum (1,127) of Thirukkoilur Government Girls Higher Secondary School.

The meritorious candidates of the municipal higher secondary schools are: V. Venkatesh (1,067), C. Rajasekar (1,026) and R. Bharanidharan (1,020), all from Kamaraj Municipal Boys Higher Secondary School.

The top-notchers of the aided schools are: J. Sheikh Dawood (1,158) of St. Anne’s Higher Secondary School at Tindivanam, E. Savitha (1,144) and S. Vedapriya (1,129), both from St. Philomena Higher Secondary School, Tindivanam.

Eight schools have attained cent per cent results: Ramakrishna Gurukulam Higher Secondary School, Ulundurpet, Rajshree Sugars Ramakrishna Higher Secondary School, Mundiampakkam, Oxford Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vada Semapalayam, E.S. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Villupuram, Bharathi Mat.HSS, Vadakkanandhal, Bharathi Bala Mandir Mat.HSS, Chinna Salem, R.R.Cambridge HSS, Kallakurichi, and Gnananda Mat.HSS, Thirukkoilur.

In all, over 140 candidates have scored centum in the following subjects: mathematics – 133, biology – five, physics and accountancy – two each. On the outcome Mr. Naresh said that the improved results were due to focused attention paid by both teachers and students. The department had imparted in-service training to teachers to improve their teaching skills and conducted periodical reviews on the performance of the students and teachers, Mr. Naresh added.
