Instilling confidence: Paramilitary personnel taking out a flag march in Kalaghatagi on Friday. HUBLI: Paramilitary personnel along with the district police conducted a flag march at Kalaghatagi and Mishrikoti in the Kalaghatagi constituency on Friday. Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar and Superintendent of Police B.S. Prakash and other senior police officials led the flag march. Mr. Prakash told The Hindu that the exercise was aimed at boosting the morale of the voters and to assure them that they could come out freely and exercise their franchise without any fear. The exercise was also aimed at sending a clear message to anti-social elements that were likely to indulge in unlawful activities during polling, he said. Mr. Prakash said that paramilitary personnel would be deployed in all the constituencies of the district along with the platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP). He said 11 companies of paramilitary forces would be deployed for “bandobast” duties in rural and semi-urban areas of the district. Flag marches would be held in other constituencies of the district also, he said. Meanwhile, a special team has been formed by the district administration to keep track of canvassing by Congress candidate Santosh Lad. The Deputy Commissioner said that the team had been formed following complaints about Mr. Lad distributing money during canvassing and giving donations. The team would keep track of canvassing by Mr. Lad and it would be video-graphed in order to check any violation of the model code of code. He said raids were conducted on four liquor shops in Kalaghatagi on Friday and the licence of one shop was suspended on account of irregularities. Six vehicles had been seized in the district for violation of the code. Randomisation of electronic voting machines was completed on Friday evening and sent to respective constituencies, he said.
