KOCHI: The Muslim Employees Cultural Association (MECA) has hailed the government’s proposed single-window system for admission to Plus One and praised the government for the plan. It said the system would help ease children’s tension and that it would not hurt parents’ pockets. MECA general secretary N.K. Ali said the new system would not compromise any of the rights of the managements of the backward-minority schools. He wanted the system to be extended to admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses too. Staff Reporter writes from Kozhikode: The State Committee of the Kerala Higher Secondary Teachers Association (KAHSTA) has welcomed the single-window system. The association suggested setting up of district-level monitoring committees to ensure transparency in the selection process. Such a monitoring dispensation was needed to ensure that the admission process was not unduly delayed as had happened in Thiruvananthapuram district last year, it was added. The association also opined that admitting 60 students in a school was not practical as it would affect quality besides the fact that some schools did not have adequate infrastructure. Joshy Antoney, KAHSTA state president presided over the meeting held in this connection. The State committee of the Higher Secondary School Teachers Association warned that if the single-window system failed, the government would have to take the full blame. The system was being introduced without adequate arrangement, the HSSTA opined.
