‘Scrap pact on bauxite mining’
HYDERABAD: The CPI State Council on Friday demanded scrapping of the agreement on bauxite mining in the Chinatapalli area of Visakhapatnam district.
Party secretary K. Narayana in a letter to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy said bauxite-mining was being opposed by Girijans, as it would harm their interests. He accused the Government was taking extra care to survey for bauxite using helicopters, while ignoring its duty of providing health care to viral-fever afflicted Girijans and not allowing them to enjoy their constitutional rights. The party, he said, would lay siege to the Collectorate on May 14, following the culmination of a week-long ‘padayatra’.
