Chandigarh: The maximum temperature on Friday in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh fell sharply in the region with the mercury dipping by about two to three degrees below normal in most pockets of the area. Besides sharp fall in temperature, the met office here predicted dust and thunder storms with light to moderate rains in the region during the next 24 hours. The isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana are also likely to be hit by hails or thunder squalls with wind speed exceeding 45 km per hour. In the plains of the region, Hisar settled at a high of 38.4 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal followed by 37.6 degrees Celsius at Bhiwani, 36.7 degrees Celsius at Patiala, Ambala 36.6, Ludhiana 36.5, and Chandigarh 36.1 degrees Celsius. Strong thunder storms last evening and at several places this afternoon provided relief to the people of the region from torrid heat conditions prevailing in Punjab and Haryana. The present spell of heat wave has claimed two lives in the region in Amritsar. PTI
