This Day That Age
Dr. Khan Sahib, leader of the Republican Party and former Chief Minister of West Pakistan, was stabbed at his home at 8.30 a.m. on May 9. The assailant, 30-year-old Atta Mohammed, is said to be a “Patwari” (Revenue Clerk) from Bahawalpur, who had been dismissed from service two years ago. Dr. Khan Sahib was rushed to the Mayo Hospital, where he died ten minutes later. The body of Dr. Khan Sahib, who was 76, was taken to his villa, ‘Utmanzai’, about 30 miles from Peshawar, where it is to be interred by the side of his wife. All West Pakistan Government offices remained closed on May 9 and flags flew at half-mast in memory of Dr. Khan Sahib.
