55 child marriages prevented

Kota: Authorities prevented 55 child marriages from being solemnised during mass weddings on the auspicious occasion of ’Akhateej’ (Akshaya Tritiya) in Hadauti region and Baran district of Rajasthan.

Police and officials of the Child Development Department stopped 15 children from tying the nuptial knot at Hadauti on Thursday after their age certificates were found improper.

In Khhadil village of Baran district, 40 weddings were not allowed to be solemnised as the organisers could not produce acceptance certificates with age proofs of the candidates. A total of 241 marriages were solemnised in six mass weddings here on Thursday. — PTI
