Indian girls lose again

NEW DELHI: Second-seeded Japan proved too good for India in a positional match for the losing quarterfinalists in the Asia-Oceania Junior Fed Cup girls’ under-16 tennis tournament in Bangkok on Friday.

In the semifinals, the top-seeded Uzbekistan beat Chinese Taipei 2-1 and the sixth-seeded China outplayed Korea 3-0.

The results: Japan bt India 2-1 (Akiko Omae bt Ratnika Batra 7-5, 6-1; Sachie Ishizu bt Rishika Sunkara 6-1, 6-2; Sachie & Akiko lost to Ratnika & Rishika walkover).
