BERHAMPUR: A confrontation between the anti-displacement movement related to the Cheligada irrigation project and the administration is brewing up. Recently the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Southern Division, Satyabarata Sahu ordered the district administrations of Ganjam and Gajapati districts to speed up the rehabilitation of families to be displaced by the project. Delay in rehabilitation has subsequently delayed the project. But the anti-displacement organisation ‘Cheligada Prakalpa Budi Anchal Sangram Samity (CPBASS)’ has said that they would oppose any kind of attempt by the administration to displace them. The tribal organisation ‘Lok Sangram Mancha’ (LSM) has also been supporting the anti displacement movement. Opposition to displacement was quite evident at a meeting called up by the Gajapati district administration at Cheligada Upper Primary School on Wednesday to discuss the rehabilitation package with the families to be affected by the Cheligada project. The meeting was attended by the Gajapati district Collector, D.V. Swami, other officials of the administration and officials of the Irrigation Department. Representatives of ten villages of Gajapati district, which would be affected by the project.
