BJP, Congress are trying to destroy regional outfits: JD(S)

Special Correspondent

Danish Ali

BANGALORE: Secretary-general of the Janata Dal (Secular) Danish Ali has criticised the Congress and the BJP for trying to drive the country towards a two-party system by destroying regional parties. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Ali said the BJP and the Congress were following the same socio-economic agenda and both of them had no major differences as far as their functioning went. Both were pro-rich.

In such a situation, the people should try to secure multi-party democracy in the country, and Karnataka should take lead, he told the voters.

Exuding confidence of a JD(S) victory in the elections, Mr. Ali said the party would get 50 seats in the first phase itself.

When exit and opinion polls had played down the prospects of the JD(S) in the 2004 elections, the party won 58 seats, Mr. Ali said. This time also, the JD(S) would post surprising results.

Mr. Ali said Karnataka did not need a Gujarat model of development nor the so-called secular model of the Congress.

If voted to power, the JD(S) would cancel the controversial decisions taken by the Governor during the last six months Mr. Ali stated.
