PALAKKAD: The 12-hour hartal called by the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday in the Chittur Legislative Assembly constituency in protest against the murder of their activist Suresh, 29, was total. Some medical shops and STD booths in Kozhinjampara were attacked during the hartal. The hartal supporters also destroyed flags, banners and statues put up by the CPM (M) on the roadside in Kozhijampara. The police party led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Gupta is camping in Kozhijampara. Suresh, a toddy tapper, was waylaid and murdered by a gang while he was returning from the Mariyamman temple festival on Thursday night.
