Social welfare schemes launched

KOCHI: The social development programmes sponsored by Binani Zinc Limited were launched at a function held at Ghanshyam Binani Community Hall near here on Friday. The programmes are worth Rs. 8 lakh. An NGO, Rajagiri-CASP, is an associate partner in the venture.

A.M. Yousuf, MLA, inaugurated the function. V.D. Satheeshan, MLA, dedicated the education sponsorship programme for children from the underprivileged sections.

Fifty children in the classes between 3 and 6 were identified as the beneficiaries.

The programme also includes provision for medical insurance under which a child covered under the scheme can claim up to Rs. 3,000 on hospitalisation. V.K. Ibrahim Kunju, MLA, inaugurated the day care centre for elders living in Binanipuram area. — Staff Reporter
