TIRUCHI: About a decade after its bifurcation from the then composite Lalgudi taluk, Mannachanallur taluk in the district gets a taluk office which was housed in a couple of rented buildings till now.

Work on the construction of the taluk office at an estimated of Rs.1.27 crore is nearing completion, with finishing touches in electrical and allied service-works being given at the sprawling two-storey building.

The full-fledged building, with a total plinth area of about 1,400 square metres, will now offer more space to the election unit, taluk supply wing, OAP and other relief sections, according to official sources.

The ground-floor has a plinth-area of 415 square metres; the first-floor 401 square metres; and the second floor, 426 square metres. This apart, adequate facility has been provided for the visitor’s hall and carriage space (each 43 sq. m.).

Till now, the office was housed in two houses at different periods, causing inconvenience not only to the visiting public but also to the staff due to space constraint.

The building, located on the Tiruchi–Thuraiyur highway, would facilitate easy access to the members of the public seeking some assistance or other, the sources said.

After the bifurcation of the Lalgudi taluk on the New Year’s Day in 1997, the taluk office at Mannachanallur started functioning at a private building on Kasukadai street only to be shifted to another private building on the Tiruchi–Thuraiyur Road about three years ago.
