Staff shortage delays flights

A Correspondent

Nedumbassery: The departure of at least three international flights from the Cochin International Airport were delayed in the early hours of Friday as the immigration team could not carry out the clearance procedure during the peak hours due to a shortage of staff. The Dubai-bound Emirates flight (EK 533) was scheduled to leave at 4.20 a.m. but could depart only at 5.10 a.m.. The Kuwait Airways flight (KU 352) that was scheduled to leave for Kuwait at 5.55 a.m. however, could depart only at 6.30 a.m. whereas the Bahrain-bound Gulf Air flight (GF 271) took off at 6.50 a.m. thought it was originally scheduled at 6.20 a.m.

The airport officials attributed the staff shortage in the immigration wing as the reason behind the flights’ delay and said that they had constantly been pressing the authorities for the employment of additional staff.
