Vallarpadam: Minister briefed

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The deadline set by the Union Shipping Ministry for acquiring land for the rail and road connectivity of the proposed Vallarpadam International Container Terminal is fast approaching. But the district revenue authorities are finding it tough. District Collector Dr. M Beena met Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran and Prinicipal Secretary, Revenue Department, Nivedita P. Haran at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday and apprised them of the hurdles faced in land acquisition. Dr. Beena said, “The meetings were not intended to take any final decision, but to give a clear picture to the government.” The Collector also brought to notice the complaint about the delay in assigning rehabilitation land for those displaced at the Moolamppilly Island.

“The government directed the district administration to seek legal advice since the land identified was river puramboke,” she said.
