LCS knee replacement surgeries at Yashoda

HYDERABAD: A knee prosthesis-Low Contact Stress (LCS) for total knee replacement, claimed to be capable of sustaining the rigours of normal life for 30 years, was introduced by Yashoda Hospitals on Thursday.

Because of its longevity and proven track record, the LCS could be a boon for young patients, who wait till they reach 40 years before going under the scalpel, Joint Replacement Surgeon of the hospital, Dr. Akhil Dadi, claimed at a press conference on Thursday.

The existing prosthesis in the market has a lifespan of 15 years. “If we do knee replacement surgery on a 30-year-old by using the existing ones, then we may have to operate again after 15 years. With LCS, we can avoid repeating such surgeries,” Dr. Dadi said.

An Italian surgeon Dr. Briard, helped Dr. Dadi conduct an LCS surgery on Thursday.
