Kamban Vizha kicks off

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: Lieutenant Governor Bhopinder Singh on Friday said that poet Kamban had composed the verses of the Ramayana meticulously and an in depth analysis of the work revealed that his skills were not limited to the language but also other branches of studies.

In his inaugural address at the “Kamban Vizha” here, Mr. Singh said, “Kamba Ramayanam is not a translation of the Sanskrit epic by Adikavi Valmiki, but an original retelling of the story.”

Universally regarded as “one of the world’s most important literary works,” the epic had a profound impact on the art and culture, he said.
