Unfounded: PMO

New Delhi: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Friday night dismissed West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s criticism that Manmohan Singh had “failed” to perform on the economic front. It said the charge was unfounded and lacked legitimacy.

Asserting that in the “daily din of politics” such statements are often made, the Prime Minister’s media adviser Sanjaya Baru said the “country is in fact aware of the record of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and it is there for everyone to see.”

“The Indian economy has never performed more strongly than in the past four years and India’s global standing has never been higher than today. The PM has made the growth process more inclusive. The facts speak for themselves,” he said.

Mr. Baru said Mr. Bhattacharjee’s remarks targeting the Prime Minister were are all part of politics.

About rising inflation, Mr. Baru said it was worrying the Prime Minister and that it would worry anybody concerned about prices. “On the other hand, we must look at it in the larger perspective,” he said.

He said the inflation trend had been arrested and kept below eight per cent. — PTI
