A new peep into public affairs
Parul Sharma
NEW DELHI: Former Army Chief General V. P. Malik and seasoned diplomats like former Foreign Secretary M. Rasgotra will soon interact with Delhi University students to educate them on the nuances of policy-making.
In a bid to expose its undergraduate students to national and international public policy issues, the University has joined hands with a prominent public policy think tank, Observer Research Foundation, to hold summer workshops for students.
The first two-week workshop for select undergraduate students will be inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental on May 19 at the ORF campus. The idea of this workshop was suggested by Prof. Pental to ORF Chairman R. K. Mishra.
Understand issues
“A number of undergraduate students do not get exposed to many other things beyond their narrow curriculum. The workshop will expose them to policy-making, the country’s energy policy, security policy and defence policy. The workshop intends to expose a group of about 25 students in their summer break to public policy issues that are in the domain of ORF’s specialisation,” said Shobhit Mahajan, Director of the Computer Centre at the University.
According to an ORF spokesperson, the workshop will be based on a series of lectures by ORF’s distinguished faculty and domain experts followed by group discussions and group tasks.
The programme has been designed in such a way that there will be talks by experts in the mornings, while afternoons being reserved for assignments.
