Residents of Chinnavepampattu are mostly casual labourers If the school is upgraded, students from neighbouring villages will also benefit JOLARPET: Residents of Chinnavepampattu village panchayat in Jolarpet block near Tirupattur have requested the authorities concerned to upgrade the middle school to a high school. The request has been sent through the Headmaster of Chinnavepampattu Panchayat Middle School. However, the District Education Department is yet to initiate action. Village panchayat president Dhandapani said that 330 students were studying in the school. Though the residents of Chinnavepampattu were mostly casual labourers, they never failed to send their wards to school, he said. But, the children could not study beyond Standard VIII as there were no high schools in the village. Though the parents did not want their wards to discontinue their education, they could not help it. Mr. Dhandapani said that the administration had been taking steps to eradicate child labour from the district. Ensuring undisrupted education alone would help in yielding the desired results, he added. If the middle school was upgraded to a high school, the students from the neighbouring villages, including Kalandhara coming under the Alangayam panchayat union, would also benefit. At present, the students had to go to Ponneri and Vaniyambadi to join high schools and higher secondary schools. Mr. Dhandapani said that the students from Chinnavepampattu had to travel at least six km to reach Ponneri and Vaniyambadi. Further, Vaniyambadi was the only taluk headquarters where there was not even a municipality higher secondary school. This was a stumbling block for the students interested in pursuing higher studies. The students going to Ponneri and Vaniyambadi suffered owing to the lack of adequate bus services too. As a result, they sometimes had to walk several km or had to board a bus from Ponneri to Vaniyambadi. Mr. Dhandapani hoped that the district administration would consider the demand and help the students.
