DAVANGERE: The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that his father and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s decision to sever ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was correct and an intelligent move. “Had the BJP been given power to run the government, its leaders would have amassed large amounts of wealth and emptied the State treasury,” he said. “‘I am really shocked by the way most BJP leaders have been spending money lavishly on the elections. My father had rightly foreseen the risks with regard to extending support to the BJP for the remaining term and had hence cut off ties immediately,” he claimed. He told presspersons who met him at Chennagiri in the district on Saturday, that earlier he used to feel disappointed over his father’s decision. But, he had later realised that it was the right thing to do. He also said the Congress had created a situation which had forced him to team up with the BJP.
