GADAG: Randomisation of electronic voting machines (EVMs) for four constituencies in Gadag district was held in the presence of election observers and representatives of various political parties here on Friday. The computerised randomisation process of 860 EVMs was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and district election officer N. Sriraman. Postal ballots of service voters were handed over to the returning officer, who in turn, would hand them over to the postal department. Election expenditure observer Bijoy Kumar Mallick and election observers Sonmai Barua, K.R. Meena, H.R. Pawar, Syeden Abbasi and Superintendent of Police D. Roopa were present during the randomisation process. ID cardsAt a meeting held later, Mr. Sriraman said that 65 per cent of the voters in the district had been given photo identity cards and the process of issuing such cards to another two lakh voters would continue till May 15. He said election officials would be demonstrating the working of EVMs before the agents of various political parties. Candidates of various political parties, including H.K. Patil, S.S. Patil, G.S. Patil, C.C. Patil, B.R. Yavagal and Shrishailappa Bidaruru, who participated in the meeting, sought clarifications on various issues.
