Sangareddy: Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development D. Purandeswari called for moral education to be introduced as part of curriculum for schoolchildren. She was addressing the silver jubilee celebrations of Nehru Memorial Government Degree College Alumni Association - Jogipet (Science), Old Students Social Harmony (JOSSH), in Jogipet on Saturday. The Minister called for education that teaches human values to young people. She said that unfortunately the country is still following the British system of education which was made to suit the imperial era. Despite recommendations for a thorough cleansing of the rickety system, it is still continuing in schools, she said. Expressing concern over the plight of joint family system, she said that bigger families inculcate good qualities in children. She was very critical on the growing number of teachers found on the other side of the law. She urged them to be role models for students. Alumni of the college and Commissioner of Right to Information Act Dilip Reddy said that Jossh has been organising education and sport-related programmes for the college students throughout the academic year. Later, the Minister released a souvenir titled, Savvadi, a compilation of experiences penned by old students of the college. Meanwhile, retired lecturers of the college promised to institute two gold medals for toppers of the college.
