KOCHI: The Public Works Department (PWD) will bring out the new norms for buildings adjacent to major roads and highways in two weeks. Addressing the two-day seminar on National Building Code 2005 organised by the Institution of Engineers, Public Works Minister Mons Joseph said the new norms would be introduced considering the increasing traffic and development happening in the State. Mr. Joseph said the State has had a narrow outlook on infrastructure, and this has resulted in congested roads with buildings very close to them. “There will be strict controls to ensure that highways are well maintained. The government has already received complaints on this and the norms to be enforced will take into consideration people’s genuine requests,” he said. Mr. Joseph said he had enquired into some of the construction norms and had found them wanting.
