Parekh re-elected Supreme Court Bar Association president

NEW DELHI: Senior advocate P.H. Parekh has been re-elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association for 2008-09.

In the elections held over the weekend, he defeated his nearest rival, Rupinder Singh Suri, by 52 votes.

While Mr. Parekh got 1,210 votes, Mr. Suri got 1,158.

This is the fourth time Mr. Parekh has been elected to this post.

Other newly-elected office-bearers are: (vice-president) Adish C. Aggarwala, who polled 982 votes to defeat Ashok Kumar Panda by the highest margin of 256 votes; (secretary) K. C. Kaushik; (assistant secretary) Ajay Jain; (treasurer) Manish Mohan; and (assistant treasurer) M. Savitri Pandey.

Rakesh Munjal, H. L. Aggarwal, Rakesh Khanna, V. Shekhar, S. B. Sanyal and B. Chahar were elected senior executive members and V. K. Biju, Aruna Das, Anil Hooda, Parmanand Gaur, Devadatt S. Kamat, Tanveer Ahmed Khan, Anjani Kumar Mishra, Roopa Paul and Sandhya Yadav were elected Executive Committee members.
