MALAPPURAM: Vigilance officers of the Sales Tax Department, on Saturday, seized 1,600 gm of gold jewellery estimated at Rs.18 lakh from a Thrissur-based agent for evading tax. The agent was caught when trying to supply the jewellery to shops at Palunda, near Edakkara, in Malappuram district. However, the gold was later released to the owner on payment of Rs.2.27-lakh fine.
