Kochi: The All India Students Federation (AISF) State committee has protested against the order of the Fee Regulatory Committee categorising self-financing colleges into two groups and allowing them to collect interest-free one-time deposits. At a press conference here on Saturday, its State secretary T.T. Gismon said that the recommendation could not be accepted. It would divide students on the basis of income. By its order, the committee had given the self-financing college managements a golden opportunity to collect capitation fee .The failure of certain college managements to submit details of their accounts before the committee showed that irregularities were taking place in these colleges. The government should stop admissions in such colleges. He also denounced the decision of the cooperative department to start new self-financing colleges. The federation was of the view that till a solution was found to the present impasse, no self-financing colleges should be started, Mr. Gismon said.
