N.K.K.P.Raja,Handloom Minister looking at one of the sarees at the exhibition organised by the Co-optex at the Anna University campus on Friday. CHENNAI: An exhibition cum sale of handloom cotton dress materials created by the Co-optex was inaugurated by N.K.K.P.Raja, Handloom Minister, at the Anna University campus here on Friday. Talking to reporters, the Minister said the exhibition was organised with the twin objectives of helping the weavers in the State to earn more income and creating awareness among students of the comforts of wearing handloom cotton dress materials. Mr Raja said many students were of the opinion that the dress materials made by the Co-optex were meant only for elders. In order to dispel such a myth the organisation had introduced several new dress materials in the exhibition. The exhibition would conclude on Thursday next. So far the Co-optex had organised similar exhibitions in 18 universities and 189 colleges in the State. In the fiscal year 2007-08 it had sold dress materials to the tune of Rs 4.16 crore by organising exhibitions in the colleges, the Minister said. Another speciality at the exhibition was that a tailor had been appointed at the venue. Those who wish to buy clothes could also take the required measurements for stitching the dresses, said M.P.Nirmala, Special Officer and Managing Director, Co-optex.
