Orissa to be spelt as Odhisa soon

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: At last the State government has realised that it was time to get the name of the State spelt correctly in English. If everything goes smoothly, Orissa would be spelt at Odisha in a few months from now.

Although the government had been writing Odisha in Oriya language, the English spelling, given by the erstwhile British rulers, had remained unchanged as Orissa.

The State government has already taken up the issue with the Central government, State Home Secretary T.K. Mishra said here on Friday.

Cabinet nod

Mr. Mishra said the authorities in New Delhi had suggested the State government should furnish a formal approval of the Cabinet and also adopt a resolution in the State Assembly in this regard.

The State government is also making efforts to get the spelling of the language corrected from Oriya to Odia, according to Mr. Mishra.
