BJP seeks PM’s help over water issue
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to call a meeting of the Chief Ministers of Haryana and Delhi to sort out the issues pertaining to water-sharing.
Pointing out that the two States had been squabbling over water and this had become a matter of great inconvenience for the people of Delhi, Dr Vardhan said the Prime Minister should intervene and settle the issue.
Criticising the Congress-led governments in both the States for failing to reach an accord over the issue, the BJP leader said Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had failed to ensure uninterrupted water supply despite having been in power for the past nine years. He criticised the Delhi Government for its inability to sign a MoU with Uttar Pradesh for securing 140 million gallons a day of water for the Sonia Vihar plant. “In spite of spending Rs.850 crore on the project, the city is yet to receive its full share of water for the Sonia Vihar plant,” he added.
