Former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna coming out of Sri Manjunateshwara temple at Dharmasthala on Saturday. DHARMASTHALA: Only the prospective Government can decide on whether to continue or revoke the ban on sale of arrack in the State, former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna has said. The views expressed by leaders of the party, in their individual capacity, do not hold good. These issues would be decided based on the party’s manifesto. The party would, however, consider these views as advice and decide purely on their merits, he said. In an informal chat with presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Krishna refused to get in to the specifics of the issue. Former Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president B. Janardhan Poojary had recently stated that the Congress was in favour of revoking the ban on sale of arrack. Stating that people had realised that Congress was the only party capable of giving stable governance in Karnataka, Mr. Krishna said the electorate had to face untimely elections owing to the failure of two coalition governments. “Some of the programmes implemented by the Congress then, including the Yashaswini insurance scheme and mid-day meal are relevant even now. The people will judge the Congress on these and other developmental issues,” he said.
