BANGALORE: If a large number of voters were disappointed as their names were missing from the electoral rolls, many others, despite having their names on the rolls, were not able to vote as they did not carry any identity card. Though the Election Commission had issued a list of 19 alternative identity proof that could be used in lieu of the electoral photo identity cards, several voters turned up at the booths without any of them. “I am a school dropout and stay at home. What kind of identity card can I have? Officials did not allow me to vote though my name is in the list,” said Sameera Nazma, who came to the booth at Hilal Urdu School in Durgah Mohalla in K.R. Puram Assembly constituency. Such instances were reported from almost all the constituencies in the city. In Cauvery Nagar, around 500 people staged a protest near booth numbers 70 to 75. Later, the police personnel and polling officials pacified them and asked them to produce any one document to establish their identity.
