PMK favours uniform education system

Staff Reporter

KRISHNAGIRI: Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss has urged the State government to introduce a uniform education system in Tamil Nadu.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, he said that though the number of educational institutions had grown phenomenally, a substantial number of students were not covered. He asked the Government to reduce the fees to make engineering education affordable to the poor. Of a total of 4,96,000 students who sat for the Plus-Two examinations, 3,60,000 passed with an aggregate of 60 per cent. But still, there were vacancies in engineering colleges because the fees were unaffordable.

Dr. Ramadoss demanded that the government gradually close down the 6,700 TASMAC outlets in the State. Their working hours could be shortened from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The growing sale of liquor products, he said, did not augur well for the State.
