VISAKHAPATNAM: Foundations were laid for works estimated at Rs. 707.16 crore to be taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in the city at a public meeting attended by thousands of people in Gajuwaka area on Saturday. Union Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy laid foundation for the Rs. 240.74 crore integrated water supply scheme for the 32 villages around Visakhapatnam that had been merged into the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and the Rs. 85.76 crore integrated water supply scheme for the Gajuwaka area while Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram laid foundation for a scheme costing Rs. 187.85 crore to provide houses for 15,320 urban poor families and the needed infrastructure and the Rs. 192.81- crore scheme to create basic infrastructure at 16 slums in the city. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy distributed loans to a tune of Rs. 11.44 crore to DWCRA groups.
