Into ‘speed’ mode of rendering service

Transport Department to deliver products at doorstep

Applicants have to pay Rs. 25 additionally to utilise the service

Service will deal a harsh blow on middlemen, says Deputy Transport Commissioner

VIJAYAWADA: The Transport Department seeks to increase users’ convenience by providing value addition to its services.

Like in the case of passport offices, the Transport Department will also be using Speed Post for delivery of various documents, including new driving licences, at the doorstep of applicants.

Driving licences, LLRs, registration certificates, duplicate licences and duplicate registration certificates will be sent only through Speed Post. Until now, new driving licence cards and new vehicle registration cards are being sent to the applicants by registered post, for which applicants are being asked to attach an envelope with Rs.25 of stamps. This system will be replaced with Speed Post.

Transport officials have already held talks with the Department of Posts to deliver its products through Speed Post.

Applicants will have to pay Rs. 25 additionally to utilise this service. Once the service is in place, the Transport Department will not issue licences or any other documents by hand to any user. “Speed Post service will be made available very soon,” said Deputy Transport Commissioner T. Raghunath, on Saturday.

Correct address

He pointed out that those using any service of the Transport Department should now compulsorily provide correct address and necessary proof, failing which relevant documents would not be delivered at the false address and handed over to the applicant only on verification of proof. If a false address is given, documents will be sent back to the Transport Department and the user will have to once again pay Rs. 25 after providing proof of correct address. Mr. Raghunath said Speed Post service would deal a harsh blow on middlemen, as they would not have any chance to take the original documents to hand over to the applicants. The new facility would also significantly minimise the number of visits that an applicant would have to pay to the Transport Department’s office.

Special software

The Department of Posts has agreed to deliver the documents through Speed Post without demanding prior payment of service charges by the Transport Department.
