2 from State killed in Iraq

Special Correspondent

NAGAPATTINAM: Ramesh Kumar, (30) and G. Senthil (28) working in Iraq reportedly died in a terrorist bomb attack in Iraq on Thursday. Ramesh Kumar belonged to Keezha Eesanur village in Tirukkuvalai taluk in Nagapattinam district and Senthil’s family lives in Jothinagar, Mambakkam near Tambaram.

According to Samiappan, father of Ramesh Kumar, his son was recruited as a truck driver by a Kuwaiti firm in 2000 and was recently sent to Iraq as a driver for transporting goods for the American forces there. He said he had received a phone call from Ramesh Kumar’s co-worker that his son was killed in the terrorist attack while driving a truck in Iraq.

This was also confirmed by the Kuwaiti firm, he said. On Friday, Mr Samiappan had sent representations to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Nagapattinam Collector and Superintendent of Police, to take steps to bring his son’s body from Iraq to his village. Our Special Correspondent reports from TAMBARAM:

The relatives of the second victim Senthil told media persons on Saturday evening that they received telephone calls about the demise of Senthil. A relative said they received a call around 10 p.m. on May 8 that he was killed in a bombing incident in Iraq. But, they were unable to confirm. “Senthil was working in Kuwait for some years before moving to Iraq,” said Prabhakaran, another relative.

Son of Gangadharan and Vijaya, Senthil had two younger brothers - Balu (24) and Saravanan (22), Mr. Prabhakaran said. The family, Mr. Prabhakaran said, was yet to receive information about the arrival of the Senthil body.
