His name, nationality and location were not known before Within 24 hours of appeal, there were 2,50,000 visits to Interpol website NEW DELHI: Interpol’s second operation against paedophiles has met with instant success. Within 48 hours of a global appeal from the international police organisation to the public, the prime suspect Wayne Nelson Corliss, 58, from Union City, New Jersey, was identified, located and arrested by special agents from the U.S. In its “Operation IDent,” Interpol on May 6 released the picture of the suspect, whose name, nationality and location were unknown. He was featured in about 100 images, which are believed to be prints taken in South East Asia and which depicted sexual abuse of three children aged between 6 and 10. The pictures of the paedophile were received from the Norwegian police. On tips from the public received at the Interpol headquarters, he was arrested in New Jersey. Within 24 hours of the launch of ‘Operation IDent,’ there were almost 2,50,000 visits on the Interpol’s website, which are about 10 times the daily average figure, demonstrating that the public deeply care about helping the police identify child abusers. The Central Bureau of Investigation, which represents Interpol in India, has been actively partnering it in its fight against child sex abuse.
