Venugopal back on job, conducts operation

NEW DELHI: Renowned heart surgeon P. Venugopal led a team of surgeons here on Saturday morning to carry out his first heart surgery after being reinstated as All-India Institute of Medical Sciences Director.
“Dr. Venugopal operated on a Pakistani child to stitch a 1.2-cm hole in his heart. The child, two-year-old George Sajeed, was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit after the surgery at around 7-30 a.m. and is doing well. Sajeed had been diagnosed as suffering from ventricular septal. Dr. Venugopal led a team of surgeons to finish the over-an-hour-long surgery. After the surgery, I am sure he felt like he had come back home,” said a senior physician at AIIMS.
AIIMS has decided not to charge for this operation.
