THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A one-and-a-half-year-old child met with a watery grave after she accidentally fell into a 75-foot-deep well at Kalluvila, near Thiruvallom, on Saturday. According to the police, Ammu alias Gouri, daughter of Jayachandra Kumar and Jayasree residing at ‘Geethanjali,’ fell into the well when her mother was washing clothes around 4 p.m. The local police and the Fire and Rescue Services rushed to the spot on getting the distress call at 4.15 p.m. According to Thiruvallom police, the retaining wall of the well did not have enough height. Moreover, the well was also not covered. The body was fished out by Surendran, a personnel of the Fire and Rescue Services. The personnel had to use three oxygen cylinders to enter the well and fish out the body. The child was declared dead on arrival at the SAT Hospital.
