Kudumbasree to launch new projects

Kalpetta: The Kudumbasree Mission is entering a new phase in Wayanad district.

A landmark in the history of women empowerment in the hilly district, the mission will introduce various innovative projects for its units this year as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations.

The projects include Responsible Tourism; law awareness classes for women; planting of saplings; and Muttil, an egg village, C.M Sarasamma, district panchayat president, and A. Noushad, Kudumbasree District Mission Coordinator, said at a press meet here on Saturday.

The 10th anniversary of the district mission will be held at the Municipal Town Hall on Monday.

A seminar on ‘Eradication of poverty and local self-governments’ will be inaugurated by P. Krishnaprasad, MLA. A cultural conference will be inaugurated by A.P. Abdullakutty, MLA, at S.K.M.J. High School grounds. M.V. Shreyamskumar, MLA, will preside over the function.

Kudumbasree has 1.5 lakh members under 7,396 neighbourhood groups in the district.

A total of 454 Area Development Societies (ADS) and 26 Community Development Societies (CDS) function here.

A sum of Rs.36.5 crore has been collected from the members as small investment and Rs.112 crore distributed among them as loan so far.

The government had allotted Rs.1 crore for the operations of the mission last year. Of this, Rs.60,43,820 was spent.
