Puducherry
PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the Central government to take steps to control the rising prices by bringing a ban on online trading and supplying 15 essential commodities through fair price shops. As a sign of protest, the party would hold street-corner meetings till May 13 and picket Central government offices in six places on May 15, a release said. The Centre should provide essential commodities including rice, wheat, edible oil and pulses under the Public Distribution System. It should procure foodgrains from farmers and grant powers to the State government to take action against those who hoard foodgrains, the party said. It also urged the Centre not to reduce the quantity of foodgrains supplied to the States.
