ALAPPUZHA: The Public Works Department is drawing up plans to take over the repair and maintenance of Revenue Village Offices across the State, Public Works Minister Mons Joseph said here on Sunday. Speaking at the valedictory function of the 7th State Conference of the Kerala Land Revenue Staff Association (KLRSA), Mr. Joseph also called on the revenue staff to take the lead in helping the government acquire land for developmental projects. Earlier, the four-day conference of the KLRSA came to an end with the association deciding to launch an agitation with the involvement of the public to press forward its demand of delineation of large taluks in the State into smaller, new taluks. Pointing out that in spite of several hundreds of people approaching the revenue offices for various needs, little was being done to increase the space or improve infrastructural facilities, the Association called for urgent repair to village offices and Revenue offices in the State and for new bigger buildings wherever necessary. Expressing solidarity with the Left Democratic Front government’s initiative to ensure land to all the landless in the State, the KLRSA said it would mobilise its members to identify land that could be distributed to the landless and also to take steps to recover surplus land that had been encroached in various places.
