‘Panchaloha’ idols found in pit
ANANTAPUR: Three ‘panchaloha’ idols of Sita, Rama and Anjaneya reportedly stolen from Nagalapuram village in the neighbouring Karnataka in 2007 were found by two cattle grazers in a pit of water on the bed of rivulet between Chennampalli and Ralla Anantapur villages in Kambaduru mandal in the district on Sunday.
According to the police, cattle grazers — Bheemappa and Hanumanthappa — of Chennampalli noticed three idols in a pit on the bed of the rivulet where they took the cattle there. With the help of their friend Vijay, a ‘hamali’, the three took the idols to Kambaduru and handed them to the police.
Proof submitted
On learning that the three idols were found, several villagers of Nagalapuram in neighbouring Karnataka rushed to Kambaduru police station along with the proof such as photographs and a video footage during the consecration of the idols in a temple there in 2007. They told the police that the idols were stolen within four months after their installation.
Sub-Inspector of Y.N. Hosakote also visited Kambaduru and identified the idols as those looted from a temple in Nagalapuram.
