Guwahati: A leading columnist, social activist and Editor of The Shillong Times, Patricia Mukihm, was presented the fifth Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award at a function here on Sunday. The award, instituted by the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust, is named after Bodofa (Father of Bodo nationalist assertion) Upendra Nath Brahma, who led the Bodo Statehood movement spearheaded by the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU). He died at a young age due to illness when the movement was at its peak. The award carries a citation, a memento and Rs.25000 in cash. Chairman of the Trust and former Rajya Sabha MP, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, presented the citation, president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha Brajendra Kumar Brahma presented the memento and president of the ABSU Rwn Gwra Narzary presented the cash award to Ms. Mukhim at the function attended by Bodo leaders, intellectuals, women activists, students and youth in large numbers. Ms. Mukhim was earlier conferred the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India for her commendable services to the cause of social justice and women’s right.
