Yuki to open Indian challenge

NEW DELHI: Fifteen-year-old Yuki Bhambri opens the competition against Adam Feeney of Australia in the SAIL Open $50,000 Challenger tennis tournament, at the DLTA Complex here on Monday.

The rest of the Indians, led by the Davis Cuppers Prakash Amritraj and Rohan Bopanna, will be seen in singles action only on Tuesday, as only six singles matches have been scheduled for Monday, and only one of them features an Indian. Meanwhile, Mustafa Ghouse emerged the sole Indian qualifier as he beat compatriot Rahil Makharia for the loss of two games. Two other Indians, Kamala Kannan and Rohan Gide, failed to make an impact against the top-seeded Ilia Marchenko of Ukraine and Sun Peng respectively.

The results: Qualifying event (third and final round): Ilia Marchenko (Ukr) bt Kamala Kannan 6-1, 6-4; Sun Peng bt Rohan Gide 6-3, 6-0; Travis Rettenmaier (US) bt Olivier Charroin (Fra) 6-4, 6-2; Mustafa Ghouse bt Rahil Makharia 6-1, 6-1. — Special Correspondent
