The media seems to have gone crazy on the Biranchi Das murder case. Both the print and electronic media appear to have spent much of their energy to follow the case. All other developmental events have been put on the backburner. The competition among the media houses has messed up the case as well. The Police Commissioner too lost his job. As a reader, I am confused about the reason behind the murder. Each organisation is coming up with its own theory. The unlikely ‘hero’ in the whole episode is Raja Acharya, who could never have expected such kind of publicity. In the extortion market, he undoubtedly would demand more money due to his heightened image. The affair is becoming messier owing to the incapability of the police to crack the case. Serious attempts were made, no visible success had been achieved . The cyclonic storm ‘Nargis’ that formed over the Bay of Bengal and moving towards Orissa veered away to Myanmar. The loss of life and property it caused is unimaginable. The intensity could be more devastating than the 1999 super-cyclone. Reports said some 1 lakh people died in Myanmar. The State Disaster Management Authority should send its team to the cyclone-ravaged country and share its experience. . Anil Rout Bhubaneswar
