Raja Acharya protests innocence

Special Correspondent

Says he is ready to undergo any test, including narco-analysis

‘Funds received by Budhia Singh Trust was the reason behind the murder’

Acharya has been remanded to judicial custody

BHUBANESWAR: Prime accused in Judo coach Biranchi Das murder case Raja Acharya, who has since denied of having committed the crime, on Sunday said he was ready to undergo any type of lie detection test in the case.

“I am ready to undergo brain-mapping, narco-analysis or lie detection test,” the gangster told media persons at the Capital hospital where he was brought for medical check-up before he was taken to the court.

Acharya was later produced before a local court on expiry of his five days’ police remand. The court remanded him to judicial custody.

Acharya, however, alleged that senior IAS officer Priyabrata Patnaik, Oriya video album actress Leslie and studio-owner Jubilee Sundaray had implicated him in the case.

Threatened

The accused said days before the killing of the coach he had attended two meetings at the Bhubaneswar Club where the three had allegedly threatened to frame him in the murder if he released an MMS of the actress to the media.

In the meeting, the three had discussed about the funds (about Rs. 9 crores) that was received by the Budhia Singh Trust, the accused alleged.

“The IAS officer, who had first told the media that he had never met me, had later admitted the truth,” the gangster pointed out.

The gangster said the funds meeting hinted that funds received by the Budhia Singh Trust was the cause behind the murder.

The gangster also said that the murder case had no link with any scrap trade or land deal.

The gangster also said that he had never met former Police Commissioner Binay Behera, who was recently transferred in the wake of reports that he had met the officer earlier.

The accused also clarified that he had no links with the Biju Janata Dal or any other political party.

It was earlier said that during his interrogation, Acharya had reportedly told the police about his meeting with two BJD leaders to join the party.

Counsel for the accused Bana Bihari Mohanty said if the police wanted they could again move the court to seek police remand for the accused to put him on narco-analysis or brain-mapping test.

In response to the application of the police seeking his police remand in the court on May 7, the accused had submitted that he should not be subjected to any sort of lie detection test.
