Rythu Chaitanya Yatra: stern action against absentees

Staff Reporter

Teams to cover transfer of technology, seed distribution, crop loans, crop insurance

Farmers would be contacted in about 3,000 habitations by officials from May 17 to June 3

ANANTAPUR: The officials of agriculture and allied departments drawn into mandal-level teams for visiting villages as part of Rythu Chaitanya Yatra from May 17 to June 3 have been warned against staying away from the campaign. Stern action would be taken against such absentees, Collector N. Sridhar stated here on Sunday.

Farmers would be contacted in about 3,000 habitations in the district by the teams of officials from agriculture and allied departments to give suggestions on kharif cultivation, clear doubts and create awareness about different aspects of cultivation as part of the campaign. The teams would cover aspects like transfer of technology, seed transfer, seed distribution, crop loans, crop insurance, and seed purification among others.

The Collector suggested the officials to conduct the meetings as part of the campaign as interactive sessions instead of one-way communication exercise.

Agriculture, horticulture, sericulture, AP Transco, marketing, animal husbandry, fisheries, social forestry and other officials would visit the farmers in the villages to educate and enlighten them on different aspects related to agriculture and allied activities.

The officials were also instructed to inform villagers and local elected representatives of the schedule of RCY in advance so that they could participate with queries.

On the other hand, seed procurement agencies have also been told to complete seed groundnut procurement in the district by the month-end. The government has directed procurement of about 5.5 lakh quintals of seed groundnut in the district this season.

Delay in procurement of seed had created lot of problems during the last kharif season with farmers thronging the seed sales counters out of concern that they may not get the seed.
