Overall polling percentage in the first phase put at 66

Tight security: Police guarding the room at Government Arts and Science College where electronic voting machines used in the first phase of polling have been kept, in Bangalore on Sunday.

BANGALORE: The Election Commission has put the final overall polling percentage for the 89 Assembly constituencies that went to the polls on Saturday at 66.

Quoting details furnished by deputy commissioners of the respective districts, Chief Electoral Officer M.N. Vidyashankar on Sunday stated that figures from the respective districts had been filed in form 17 (a) form which were final and official figures.

Giving details, Mr. Vidyashankar said barring BBMP and Bangalore Urban figures, the poll percentage would be 72.2.

The percentage in Bangalore Urban district was 52.14 and BBMP area 44.5.

The percentage of polling in Bangalore Rural district was 78.1, followed by Chickballapur (77.7), Ramanagara (75.9), Hassan (75.4), Tumkur (74.4), Kolar (73.1), Mandya (73), Chamarajanagar (72.41), Kodagu (67.7) and Mysore (67.5).

Congress copter seized

Mr. Vidyashankar said the Election Commission had seized a helicopter belonging to Congress for violating the model code of conduct. This copter was used by Congress leader Meira Kumar. The helicopter landed in a place where it was not supposed to, endangering the safety of the area and people.

Repoll in four booths

The Election Commission has ordered repoll in four booths in as many constituencies. Mr. Vidyashankar said that the repolling would be held on Monday at booth number 6A in Malleswaram constituency, booth number 46 in Ramnagara constituency, booth number 50 in Gandhinagar constituency and booth number 119A in Shivajinagar constituency.
